Traxxas Summit 1/10th scale extreme terrain monster truck

Traxxas Summit 1/10th scale extreme terrain monster truck
The Traxxas Summit is a 1/10th scale extreme monster truck. At first glance however, the truck is a lot larger than the typical 1/10th scale truck. The Summit boasts tons of features. like locking differentials which will allow both the front and rear differentials to be locked, either the front or rear differentials to be locked or both differentials open for crazy traction over any terrain. The treuck also features a rock crawler style suspension and soft grip tires for extra traction on bog rocks. The Summit also features a switchable gear ratio from 70:1 for rock crawling to 25:1 for cruising through trails and dirt. The truck is powered by the Traxxas Titan 775 motor and EVX 2 speed control. The truck runs on two 8.4 volt NiMH batteries for a total current of 16.4v. The electronics in the Summit, like all of Traxxas' new models is waterproof. leaving lots of room for ponds and puddles. It also comes with the 2.4GHZ radio system and batteries. It also sports a exo skeleton framed body and 10LED lighting kit for night time fun.
My review:
This truck is AWESOME!! It's huge, it crawls big rocks with ease and when it's in the 25:1 gear mode it has some pretty good speed. The only problems I see at the moment is that the run time is very short. A simple battery upgrade with a higher milli amp hour rating will yield a longer run time. Also, the truck is very complex with it's servos used for the locking differentials, so a big crash can be pretty difficult to repair. In low gear the truck climbs smoothly and the soft tires are pretty sticky to grip the rocks. If the terrain gets a little tough, locking up the differentials will make light work of even the toughest of rocks. The truck is built very solid and can take abuse. It will also roll right through streams and creeks without any issues due to waterproof electronics. The LED lighting makes it lots of fun to drive at night. This truck is a lot of fun.

Team Losi 1/18th scale Mini Desert Buggy

Team Losi 1/18th scale Mini desert Buggy
Mini Desert Buggy

The Mini Desert Buggy is a 1/18th scale buggy that is based off of a combination of Losi's popular Mini-T and Mini Desert Truck platform. The buggy features a full roll cage, removable panels for access to electronics and other parts, a center mounted battery holder, provisions for optional LED lighting. The buggy comes as a ready to run kit which includes a 2.4ghz radio with Spektrum technology, NiMH battery, and wall charger.

My review:
Overall, I'm not happy with this car at all. There are some good points and bad points when it comes to this buggy.
The Good:
Out of the box the buggy has a pretty good speed and then run time isn't that bad. Since the buggy shares parts with the Mini-T and Desert Truck, finding parts is very simple and it leaves a lot of room for upgrades down the road.
The Bad:
I bought the Buggy rather then the Desert Truck at the time because the Buggy came with the 2.4 radio. The radio worked for a few runs but then quickly started to give me problems. I had issues getting it to link up. Sometimes it would stop running in the middle of the run. Losi was aware of the problem and even after sending the buggy to them for repair, I still had the same issues with the radio until I gave up and bought an aftermarket radio/receiver. The shocks that came on the buggy started leaking right after the first run. after about a week of having the buggy, all of the oil made it's way out of the shocks. The buggy is not very durable at all. But in it's defense, Losi models are more tailored toward racing and bashing around so it's ability to take a beating is not as much as a car made for bashing.

In the end, I was very disappointed in the Desert Buggy. I can understand the car not being built to take a beating, but when there are radio issues and issues with shocks practically right out of the box, it could be very frustrating to first time users.

Traxxas Slash 1/10th scale review

Traxxas slash 1/10th scale short course race truck
The Traxxas slash is a 1/10 scale short course race truck. I purchased the two wheel drive model with the traxxas brushed motor and XL-7 waterproof electronic speed control. The New slash as well as all Traxxas electric powered models have water proof electronics. The specific model that i bought came with the new Traxxas TQ 2.4ghz radio. The previous versions had the older style non digital radio. The truck comes with everything needed to run including the radio, wall charger and battery. All that is needed is a couple batteries for the radio.

My review: I absolutely love this truck. I never did get to experience the speed or run time with the stock brushed motor ad I changed it out for the Traxxas VXL brushless set up. The truck is built to take a beating, like all other Traxxas vehicles. The large, rigid body of the truck covers all of the suspension components and the wheels, making it very durable in full rollovers. The radio receiver is housed in a waterproof box and keeps everything dry. the steering servo is also waterproof. Although Traxxas advises against it, I took the truck on the beach and drove it directly into the ocean, completely submerging the truck. It drove right out of the water and kept on going. I don't recommend anyone doing this on a normal basis. but this goes to show just how waterproof the truck is. The truck handles great on harder sand and gravel and has very realistic handling characteristics of the race trucks it's modeled after. deeper and softer sand is a bit of a challenge due to the ground clearance and stock tires. However, a set of paddle tires will really make a difference. In conclusion, the Traxxas Slash is a awesome truck and has taken serious amounts of abuse with minimal broken parts. I definitely recommend this truck to anyone.
