Mini Desert Buggy
The Mini Desert Buggy is a 1/18th scale buggy that is based off of a combination of Losi's popular Mini-T and Mini Desert Truck platform. The buggy features a full roll cage, removable panels for access to electronics and other parts, a center mounted battery holder, provisions for optional LED lighting. The buggy comes as a ready to run kit which includes a 2.4ghz radio with Spektrum technology, NiMH battery, and wall charger.
My review:
Overall, I'm not happy with this car at all. There are some good points and bad points when it comes to this buggy.
The Good:
Out of the box the buggy has a pretty good speed and then run time isn't that bad. Since the buggy shares parts with the Mini-T and Desert Truck, finding parts is very simple and it leaves a lot of room for upgrades down the road.
The Bad:
I bought the Buggy rather then the Desert Truck at the time because the Buggy came with the 2.4 radio. The radio worked for a few runs but then quickly started to give me problems. I had issues getting it to link up. Sometimes it would stop running in the middle of the run. Losi was aware of the problem and even after sending the buggy to them for repair, I still had the same issues with the radio until I gave up and bought an aftermarket radio/receiver. The shocks that came on the buggy started leaking right after the first run. after about a week of having the buggy, all of the oil made it's way out of the shocks. The buggy is not very durable at all. But in it's defense, Losi models are more tailored toward racing and bashing around so it's ability to take a beating is not as much as a car made for bashing.
In the end, I was very disappointed in the Desert Buggy. I can understand the car not being built to take a beating, but when there are radio issues and issues with shocks practically right out of the box, it could be very frustrating to first time users.
